David Beckham joined Motorola in Tokyo today to formally kick off sales of Motorola's trend-setting MOTORAZR (M702iS) handset with DoCoMo in Japan. Sporting the hot new device, the football icon popped up at ersatz appearances around Tokyo, with Japan's most stylish mobile device, MOTORAZR.

"Appearing with leading Japanese sportscaster Tomoaki Ogura on Best Moments in Sports 2006, Fuji-TV's highly rated year end sports program, Beckham showed the MOTORAZR in each of its three colors. In an exclusive announcement, the soccer icon also unveiled a one-of-a-kind customized that will be auctioned online (http://sa.item.rakuten.co.jp/rakuoku/a/061229_moto_a/ or via MOTORAZR or other mobile phones at http://sa.item.m.rakuten.co.jp/rakuoku/a/061229_moto_a/) to raise money for UNICEF, in honor of Beckham's role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Beckham then hosted a MOTORAZR fashion show at the popular Roppongi Hills Arena, cutting through the backdrop with his MOTORAZR, introducing the device to the several thousand people assembled at the event with the help of J-Wave personality Sean K, and demonstrating why the MOTORAZR is the "must-have" DoCoMo handset. The program, which began with traditional Taiko drums, continued with Beckham treating the crowd to a free-kick demonstration onstage and climaxed with Beckham drawing the name of a random MOTORAZR owner in the crowd, calling the winner on her MOTORAZR, and bringing her onstage for a photo and gifts. Beckham concluded the event by kicking specially-branded black and silver MOTORAZR balls into a mosh-pit at center-stage filled with MOTORAZR owners.
MOTORAZR, available in Japan for only two weeks, is already the hottest selling mobile device in Japan, with the Hot pink, Neo black, and Cool silver handsets all topping the sales of DoCoMo's popular 7 series. Beckham finished the day with a spontaneous stop at a Motorola "touch-and-try" event in Shibuya, one of the world's busiest and hippest shopping areas to thank all of the people who had already made MOTORAZR the mobile device champion in Japan.
"One of the great things about my job is that I get to travel all around the world, and wherever I go, you can be sure of one thing -- the people who are really stylish carry a MOTORAZR," Beckham told the crowd. "The Japanese people are some of the most stylish in the world, and you've proven it by making MOTORAZR the number-one seller."
Catch MOTORAZR (if you can) in Hot pink, Neo black, and Cool silver at DoCoMo stores and authorized retailers nationwide.

Paris Hilton joined a celebrity- studded party in Tokyo last night to help Motorola, the global leader in mobile phone fashion, launch the record-setting MOTORAZR handset with DoCoMo in Japan. In an evening overflowing with entertainment, fun, and more than a few surprises, Motorola's guests partied the night away in a massive transparent pink tent, perched in the heart of Tokyo with a backdrop of historic Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, designed to capture the essence of MOTORAZR in its now-trademark Hot Pink color.
As the festivities began, guests sipped pink MOTORAZR cocktails created especially for the occasion, while enjoying buskers, stilt walkers, and other interactive artists that set the whimsical tone for the evening. Partygoers were then treated to a dance performance that preceded "Kagamiwari" (the traditional breaking of ceremonial sake barrels, speeches and toasts offered by Motorola and DoCoMo executives.
As MOTORAZR, available for barely a week in Japan, flew off the shelves in DoCoMo and retail stores around the country, celebrants enjoyed a procession of specially created savories from the award-winning chef, Stephane Foucher. The piece de resistance among the delicacies were thin strips of fresh pink sashimi sliced from a whole six-foot-long tuna at a specially designed ice table, with Paris Hilton joining Motorola executives to take the ceremonial first slice.
The highlight of the evening's entertainment was an exclusive recital by the accomplished British soprano and stage chanteuse Joanne Pullen, principal soprano in over a dozen London musicals. The evening was rounded out with a modern edge delivered by renowned mixmaster DJ Kulu.
"More than anything else, MOTORAZR is about memorable experiences all delivered with style, elegance, and a deep sense of fun," said Michael Tatelman, Motorola corporate vice president and general manager, North Asia. "Tonight is a taste of what we mean by that, and of what it is like to own and enjoy MOTORAZR in Japan."

Nokia and composer Brian Eno today announced a charity auction to benefit two of Brian's favourite organisations - the Keiskamma Aids Treatment program and The World Land Trust. Starting on January 8th 2007 and ending on Febuary 12th 2007, a total of ten Nokia 8800 Sirocco Brian Eno Signature Edition mobile phones, individually numbered and engraved with Brian Eno's signature, will be auctioned online with all proceeds going directly to both charities. A certificate of authenticity will also accompany each auctioned phone.
A tireless supporter of charitable causes, Eno hand-picked the two charities involved in the auction. Since its inception in 2001 as an art program to benefit one of South Africa's most impoverished districts, the Keiskamma Aids Treatment program provides both HIV education and anti-retroviral drug therapy to the residents of the district at the mouth of the Keiskamma River in South Africa. The World Land Trust, a well-regarded UK-based conservation project, has helped buy and preserve more than 300,000 acres of ecologically-rich habitats from South America to the Philippines.
"I would like to thank the people who bid for these phones for helping towards solutions to two of the biggest problems facing the world: climate change and Aids," said Brian Eno. "The World Land Trust seeks to address long term environmental change by planting trees and caring for the land. The Keiskamma Trust is a great example of an intelligent local response to a global problem, helping people with AIDS to manage their condition and live useful and productive lives"
"We are truly delighted to work closely with Brian, who composed the soundtrack to the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition, to raise funds in support of his chosen charities," says Heikki Norta, Senior Vice President, Lifestyle Products, for Nokia. "In addition to supporting these two very worthwhile causes, each successful bidder will own an exceptionally unique mobile phone, each individually numbered and signed by the composer himself."
Given its premium design, its value as a communication tool and companion is unmistakable. But for a limited time, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Brian Eno Signature Edition's worth will expand past that of its purchase value.

The Keiskamma Aids Treatment Project responds to the enormous affect this disease has on the local community. The program has been raising funds to provide Anti-Retrovirals (ARV) drugs to AIDS stricken community members that have no other access to these medicines. The program simultaneously runs education and support group components.
Headed by Aids Counselor, Eunice Mangwane, the support group is working diligently to improve the quality of life for AIDS patients in Hamburg / South Africa and the surrounding villages. www.keiskamma.org
